PART-TIME INTERIOR DESIGNER

Jo Lyle & Co. is a residential interior design studio based in Raleigh, NC, creating highly personal homes with an emphasis on craft, natural materials, old things, and attention to detail.

We’re a small (currently very small—as in, you’d be employee #1) and growing studio looking for an Interior Designer to be part of what we’re building.

This is a hands-on role working directly with Johanna across residential construction and furnishings projects—from sourcing the perfect weird little vintage thing to developing custom cabinetry, creating detailed construction sets, preparing client presentations, and tackling the many daily tasks required to run a design studio.

The right person is a good designer, of course. But just as importantly, you really like getting things done. You notice the missing dimension before the drawing goes out, follow up when the quote hasn’t arrived, and remember we still need a sconce for the upstairs hallway. You like closing loops and seeing good ideas all the way through.

You’ll help with design development, sourcing, CAD drawings and details, specifications and schedules, presentations, proposals, vendor and trade communication, project coordination, and the approximately 4,000 loose ends between a good idea and a finished room.

This isn’t an entry-level Design Assistant position, nor is it a Senior Designer role where you’ll be handed a roster of projects on day one. It’s somewhere nicely in between. You’ll work closely with Johanna, who leads the creative vision, while taking meaningful ownership of design development and execution.

This is a part-time, in-person role based in Raleigh, with the potential to grow into a full-time position. We’re also open to someone who sees longer-term part-time work as their ideal fit.

We’re building a studio where we care deeply about our clients, our work, and each other—and where people can do exciting creative work, continue to grow, and have full lives beyond the studio.
